East Riding Youth DanceEast Riding Youth Dance is an extremely exciting 12 week community dance programme within the East Riding for young people Y5 and upwards.

In weekly sessions participants will work closely with professional dance artists, providing a platform for those with little or no previous background in dance to have a fun, energetic and inspirational experience.

Participants can expect to try their hand at a range of dance styles including contemporary and street dance whilst developing their creative technique and dance skills.

As a part of the programme each group will contribute to the creation of an original dance piece to be performed at the biggest Youth Dance Platform in the area and showcase their development over the sessions.

The Beverley Folk Fringe Festival comes to the Memorial Hall, Saturday 16th June 2018, Doors open 7 pm. Dan Webster & Very Special Guests, including, Polly Bolton & Bella Gaffney, Jack Parker, Katie Spencer.

Tickets: £10 advance. £8 advance for residents, from WeGotTickets or Yorkshire Ticket Shop.
Free to (cancelled) Beverley Folk Festival ticket holders on the door.

Dan Webster says “We were really sad about the demise of the Beverley Folk Festival this year. We were particularly looking forward to our main stage support for festival headliners.
The news that ticket holders were not going to be refunded we felt couldn’t be just left uncompensated so we’ve hired the Memorial Hall in Beverley and if you have a ticket to the Beverley Folk Festival you can attend this event for free. Joining The Dan Webster Band on the bill for this show are the fantastic Bella Gaffney and Polly Bolton, Jack Parker and Katie Spencer who were all due to be playing the festival this year.
If you have a ticket for the Beverley Folk Festival simply present it or proof you purchased one on the door.

Dan Webster is described as ‘one of the the U.K’s best kept musical secrets and one not to miss!’. According to Americana UK – ‘He is the missing link, the joining point, where folk fuses with country – as good as you’ll hear on any record out of Austin or Nashville – beautiful – he is Anglicana’. Dan is a road seasoned English singer-songwriter, his music is influenced by sounds and story telling traditions of American and British Folk music, which he uniquely blends into his own distinct sound.

Bella Gaffney
Folk and acoustic singer Bella Gaffney writes folk inspired songs which she performs along with her own original arrangements of traditional pieces.
She started her acoustic music career several years ago at the Topic Folk Club. Her songwriting is influenced by lyrical songwriters as well as those with strong narratives, artists as diverse as Richard Thompson, Jez Lowe, Billy Bragg, Jack Savoretti, Roger Davies and Michelle Shocked

Polly Bolton
Talented vocalist, singing a range of haunting, traditional ballads.

Katie Spencer
Katie picked up her Dad’s guitar in December 2012, to stop it from collecting any more dust. Since her first union with the guitar, she has developed her own style, based on her eclectic music taste – an ever changing and infinite list at that! Growing up in Yorkshire and going to many folk festivals has nurtured Katie’s love for folk music, and has recently inspired her to begin writing her own material.

Saturday night is our musical party, blowing the lid off our folk theme – a big shindig for performers, audience, volunteers and the town of Beverley. A happy gathering that Norwegians would call folkefest (literally, ‘party people’).

The music begins at 7.30pm with an informally presented concert of folk- and dance-inspired music given by the New Paths artists, who include some outstanding folk musicians. The stunning programme ranges from energetic Argentinian tango, to haunting folksong of the British Isles, and traditional music from Scandinavia. Benjamin Rimmer’s recent Rise for harp and string quartet is dreamy and magical, whilst the top-hit toe-tapping Danish music Woodworks will have you itching to dance!

And so at 8.30pm we push back the chairs, get out the hay bales, and hand over to Triple Scotch, feted as the finest Ceilidh band in the UK, for two hours of solid barn dancing. Do-si-do!

Doors open at 6:45pm.

Pie and peas can be pre-booked for 7pm at a cost of £5: take a seat and make an evening of it.

The Memorial Hall will be operating a cash bar throughout the evening.

Beverley Theatre Company (BTC) are pleased to announce that Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple will be appearing at the Memorial Hall in their production of ‘A Murder is Announced’, an adaption of the Christie story by Leslie Darbon.

The family and friends of Mrs. Blacklock are all bemused when the weekly copy of the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette arrives with a startling announcement in the personal column – that a murder is to take place at their home, that very day at 6.30pm. As more people, including a certain Miss Marple, pop in to check what is going on, the scene is set to see exactly what will happen when the clock reaches the appointed time.

When a death does occur, it is up to Inspector Craddock to solve the crime – but can he do it without the help of Miss Marple, and before anyone else dies……..?

‘A Murder is Announced’ is directed by Cheryl Giles, who previously took control of BTC’s production of Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘RolePlay’.

This production sees the return of many familiar faces from BTC’s previous hugely successful staging of ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, with Zoe Conley, Emma Drew, Denise Dyble, Tony Musgrave, Nev Slater, Colin Walls and Bill Watts being joined by BTC stalwarts Pat McKenzie and Angela Chapman, and debuts from Kate Lindsay, Sarah Burnell and Paul Thomas.

The play will be performed with kind permission from Samuel French Ltd, at 7.30pm, from Wednesday 18th April until Saturday 21st April at the Beverley Memorial Hall, Lairgate, Beverley with licensed bar (except Wednesday). Tickets are priced at £7.50 for adults, £6.50 for concessions and £19.00 for a family ticket. Tickets can be purchased:
